When I think about being thankful I think about what I want right now. I would certainly be thankful for a big vacation and a Louis Vitton purse and the Cartier love braclet. I dream big! which in itself is not a bad thing. However, what I fail to recognize is that while I am busy longing for something else, all the blessings I already have are sitting right in front of me completely unnoticed and unloved.
That is why I am grateful for November to roll around and in Kindergarten we get deep into our study of Thanksgiving and it all comes back into focus. What I really should be thankful for is that I already have all I will ever need in life and that is to be loved and to have someone to love. To quote Tom and I's wedding song " and I could not ask for more".
Doesn't she look thankful here....for the little things. Starting tonight I'm looking for little things to be thankful for and right now it is the cool side of the pillow! {sweet dreams to all}
Besides being a teacher and a photographer, I also host trunk shows (I know it's insanity at it's finest...blame it on the 10 cups of coffee I drink a day). My other little endeavor, Pieces, will have a booth on Saturday, November 14th at Holy Trinity's Fall Festival so I wanted to show you a little "piece" of what we have to offer. This is truly just a smidgen of our goodies! We will have furniture and more handmade items. For those of you not familiar with Pieces, it is Crystal and I's attempt to bring antique and vintage one of a kind items into your home. Crystal is a talented decorator who has mastered the art of mixing new and old and I am just a junk gypsy who was born in the wrong century!
We are going to have things in all price ranges - from inexpensive sweet teacher or bunco gifts to expensive large decorative items. So if you've ever wanted to give your home a little vintage flair come check us out!
So I bribed Jake with a Pokemon card to go to Old Humble and take some test shots for me. As a Mom, I can think of no better way to spend a day then with my boobah, but as a photographer Jake as my model is torture! Ben Stiller in Zoolander, that is Jake. Poses, puckered lips, and the like - that is what I got today. But that's okay! I was there to determine if Old Humble is a photo session hot spot and YES it is...just not with Derek Zoolander or Jake Heath!
So as you view these pictures, just look at the texture behind the model. Unless you need a good laugh, then go ahead and check out my little uber model!
So I get to go a little goo goo right now. I happen to have a very big soft spot in my heart for this family. I can honestly say that my life turned when I met Crystal. I don't know a kinder, gentler spirit. You want to be in her presence because she makes you feel so unique and special and adored. So I can only hope I have given you something that you cherish as much as I cherish you!
Now take a look - aren't they darling!?!
This is their love story and don't they tell it well?!
Oh these two are so cute together! Ms. K with her goofy faces and funny voices and Crystal barely holding in her laughter as she tells her to straighten up. It is a good thing when your children can make you laugh. Parenting is hard work and a child's laughter is your payment.
"One man by himself is nothing. Two people who belong together make a world." - hans margolius
All my hugs and kisses! Tiff
Can you see BIG personalities in these two little bodies? I had the great pleasure of being their Kindergarten teacher last year. I gave them the names Emma Blue and Ellie Rose so I could tell them apart (Mom calls them leather and lace)! Once you get to know them, you realize how different and lovable they are in their own special way! I think it's amazing how identical they are EXCEPT for their smile! Does that tell us something friends? They say your eyes are the window to the soul, maybe the twins are teaching us your smile is too!
These bright eyes show so much energy and hope. These girls live fully and whole heartedly, and they bring that enthusiasm with them wherever they go!
Hold hands as long as you can sweet girls. Just like that magical Kindergarten year, the time you get to spend twirling goes by too fast!
It was a busy afternoon for me as I raced over the the little chapel to meet Mr. A and Ms.C. But oh what fun lay ahead of me! They were all giggle and peekaboo and everything I love about children - that naturally joyous spirit. Their Mama was as cute as she could be and I think she needs to get in front of the camera next time!
Oh this picture makes me so happy! This is what fall does to us ... makes us want to run and play and just soak up the sun!
okay Mom may not think this is a great picture but I had to post it because it makes me laugh. Kids are so honest with their feelings and as a photographer we try to capture all of those feelings - this one tickles my funny bone!
This creamy black and white just comes alive with Mr. A's skin tones. You see why I recommend outdoor sessions for kids? He's hiding in the shrubs and it works for him and it works for me - win, win!
Yeah, I know I keep taking this same shot but it is the money shot to me! Something about those sweet eyes looking up toward heaven - perfection!
I always pray before sessions, and I pray really hard before I meet new families. Like Sally Field said when she accepted her Oscar "you like me, your really like me!" I need people to like me and laugh with and at me and feel like I'm just a friend who happened to bring their camera along. God answered my prayers with the Leyva Family. They were so gentle and kind and the kids were precious. Ms. A with her bright smile, Mr. D with his funny faces and sweet little Miss J clutching her my little ponies! The proof is in the pictures - are they precious or what??!!!
Photographers often say that is is very hard to get catch lights in brown eyes. Well, I beg to differ! I'm quite certain these eyes are the stars in her parents night sky!
I wanted to end with a pic of Mom and Dad. You have a lovely family and I thank you for letting me tell a part of your story.
So there's a lot to love about this pretty Mama to be, but man her smile is amazing! When you are carrying a baby you truly do radiate. Can't you feel that beautiful spirit? One lucky baby right?!
I have never met a woman so at ease in front of the camera. I kept telling her she needs to be America's Next Top Model!
This is what love looks like my friends. It's being able to be silly and playful and just "get" each other.
This shot makes me reach for the kleenex box every time.
All the love you could possibly carry in your heart goes into that baby
It is high time I give my clients some new locations so this was supposed to be Old Town Spring. This is not Old Town Spring. The rain pushed us down another road today. A road closer to home. A road I should have called my Crosby friends before I headed down cause I had no idea where to go! Anyway, I liked this little spot and so did Zane. We really liked it cause when we got there the rain stopped just long enough for us to take a few clicks.
Zane loves to have her picture taken and wants you to take a lot of pictures and immediately show her the picture right after. Only problem is she smiles for the camera like a little rabid dog! She bears her teeth in what she thinks is a precious smile! We don't have the heart to tell her she looks like and animal, so we just wait to catch her when she's not posing. Isn't plain Zane just a little doll!
ps - the light in my country home is unbelievable! If I could ship all my clients out there I would. You just don't get a bad picture in that house!Only problem is it's in a one horse town with lots of mosquitos so I don't think I'd have any takers - but if you're ever passing through....
Dear Friends and Clients,
This is Zane. She is my sister's little girl and she is staying with our family for an uncertain amount of time. If you know anyone that can spare toys for a 2 1/2 year old or 3T clothing would you please let me know? And if you have a minute would you please say a prayer for her and her Mom.
Bless you and yours, Tiff
